LEAD
Houses built before 1978 may contain lead. However, the Centers for Disease Control writes "Lead poisoning is entirely preventable. The key is stopping children from coming into contact with lead and treating children who have been poisoned by lead. " Click here to read what the CDC says about lead in the home. RADON
Radon is a radioactive gas. It comes from the natural decay of uranium that is found in nearly all soils. It typically moves up through the ground to the air above and into your home through cracks and other holes in the foundation. Your home traps radon inside, where it can build up. Any home may have a radon problem. This means new and old homes, well-sealed and drafty homes, and homes with or without basements. TERMITES AND OTHER DAMAGING PESTS
I HIGHLY recommend a pest inspection before purchasing property. In New England, we have numerous wood boring insects that can cause significant damage to a property. The damage can be fixed, and the property can be treated to prevent further destruction. A home inspection does NOT include a pest inspection. MOLDS
Molds can be found almost anywhere; they can grow on virtually any organic substance, as long as moisture and oxygen are present. There are molds that can grow on wood, paper, carpet, foods, and insulation. When excessive moisture accumulates in buildings or on building materials, mold growth will often occur, particularly if the moisture problem remains undiscovered or unaddressed. It is impossible to eliminate all mold and mold spores in the indoor environment. However, mold growth can be controlled indoors by controlling moisture indoors.
